Research

CO – Principal Investigator in project “Resolution type 2 diabetes mellitus in obese Indian patients undergoing laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy as a standalone procedure”.

Project conducted at the Institute of Minimal Access, Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery (iMAS), Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, New Delhi.

First project in India measuring the changes in gut hormones (Ghrelin, GLP-1 & PYY) and their role in resolution of type 2 diabetes in Indian population, following laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.

This successful pilot study was sent to ICMR as a full study “Efficacy of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in morbidly obese Indian patients.”

This project has been accepted successfully by ICMR and an amount of approximately Rs. 46,00,000/- (Forty Six Lakhs) has been sanctioned for the first time to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for this research.
